Increasing Student Achievement and Proficiency in English Language Arts

Digital Teaching and Learning Grant funds will be expended to provide professional learning experiences for all district K-12 English Language Arts teachers each summer. Professional Learning will be targeted towards improving language arts instruction through the use of highly effective instructional strategies, high quality curriculum and digital software tools. As a result of this professional learning and an increased focus on English Language Arts instruction district-wide, we will be able to demonstrate an increase in the ELA learning and achievement of all K-12 students in Juab School District. Several different metrics will be utilized to provide evidence of student growth in the area of English language arts.

Portrait of a Graduate through Coaching and Personalized Learning

"Empowering our students to discover and pursue their dreams!"

Our Digital Teaching and Learning (DTL) plan matches Utah’s Master Plan. We've invested heavily in technology for classrooms and provided a lot of teacher training. We see the need for ongoing support for teachers to help them use what they've learned and improve their digital teaching skills. To help, we hired three full-time elementary coaches in the 2019-20 school year and two more for secondary schools. We will keep training and using instructional coaches to benefit every teacher and each K-12 student.

We have used funds from various sources to place a full-time instructional coach in each school. In 2020-2021, we partnered with USBE for a coaching endorsement program. By 2021-2022, all our coaches were endorsed.

We worked with the International Center for Leadership (ICL) to train teachers, coaches, and administrators on using technology to enhance teaching. This training started in May 2020 and continued for two years. Eric Sheninger from ICL conducted classroom audits in Fall 2020 and Fall 2021 to give feedback on personalized learning. Based on this data, we created improvement plans. Additional audits in Spring 2021 and 2022 measured growth and guided next steps. After each audit, ICL helped us plan how to best support our teachers.

Our coaches provide daily support to teachers, helping them integrate technology and digital curricula effectively. They also collaborate to improve their own professional learning and develop new ideas for personalized learning in our district.

Our DTL plan supports the district’s goal of providing a comprehensive education, leading to high levels of student learning. We aim for students to graduate prepared for the workforce, college, and life. Effective teachers are crucial to achieving this goal. Providing targeted, job-embedded support through instructional coaches is key. We believe this will enhance teaching and create conditions for powerful personalized learning, positively impacting all K-12 students in the Juab School District.

Empowering Student Achievement Through Literacy, Math, and Portrait of a Graduate Skills

Juab School District is committed to advancing student achievement and lifelong success through four key initiatives: improving PK–12 reading competency, strengthening K–12 math proficiency, embedding Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) skills, and developing instructional coach capacity. These priorities are supported by evidence-based practices, targeted interventions, and professional learning for educators to ensure every student meets or exceeds academic benchmarks.

Technology serves as a cornerstone of this work. Tools such as Acadience Learning Online, iReady, Google Sheets, IXL, EDIA, and Canvas enable data-driven planning, personalized learning, and targeted interventions. A 1:1 iPad program provides students with access to adaptive platforms, digital coding tools, robotics, and creative software, supporting personalized pathways and cultivating PoG skills like collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Teachers leverage Apple TV, digital assessments, and interactive platforms to design engaging learning experiences, while instructional coaches model strategies, guide implementation, and analyze data in PLCs.

To sustain progress, Juab is strengthening its professional learning ecosystem, expanding coaching staff, and investing in improved Wi-Fi, Smart TVs, and device upgrades. Professional development includes coaching cycles, peer-led sessions, and expert-led training in ed-tech tools, ensuring teachers are confident in integrating technology to support student outcomes. By aligning literacy, math, and 21st-century skills with robust coaching and technology integration, Juab School District is preparing every student to achieve academic excellence and thrive in college, career, and life.
